Young Womanhood Recognition

Makenzie received her YW Recognition award. They presented it to her in Sacrament Meeting. Just a hint for others, take the necklace out of the packaging before hand, not only did I struggle to get the necklace out of the package, but struggle to put it on, the clasps was so tiny and kept slipping, it ripped my nail, then Alisa Hancock, the YW President finally helped me, but the clasps kept slipping on her also. After a lengthy amount of time we got the necklace on!  We are so proud of Makenzie.

On a fun note, my sister,Becky, was going through the Stake storage unit and found this:
This is the plaque that used to hang in the Stake Center with the names of the girls who earned their YW Recognition Award. There is my name!

Rice Track Meet

Makenzie participated in the Victor Lopez Track Meet which is held at Rice University. It started off on Thursday the 27th at 5:30 pm. There were 30 some throwers and she was in the last flight so it took awhile and it was raining, so we are surprised they threw, but glad they did. Makenzie got a new PR in discus with a throw of 115'8". We thought she had third place, but a girl that was suppose to be throwing in the 7th place mark in the finals sowed up during the last throw and out threw everyone, so everyone got marked down a place, which knocked Makenzie out of a medal, but she still got points for her team in 4th place. Makenzie was still classy and congratulated the girl who got first.   Some of the coaches, including ours protested the girl showing up at the last thrower, but they lost the protest, since she showed up during the last throw, if it was after the throw they wouldn't have allowed her to throw. While we were happy with Makenzie's new PR, the mood was a little deflated when she got knocked down a place.

It was a cloudy, rainy, dreary kind of night

That moment when you know you got a new PR

Makenzie threw shot put on the 28th and it was warm and humid, what a difference a day makes. Makenzie place 2nd with a throw of 38' . Makenzie had a good time getting to meet new girls and visit with ones she already knows.

It was a much nicer day then the night before, even though it was hot and humid.

Track, Special Olympics, Basketball and Chalk

It was a busy Saturday for all the Smith kids, the kids here and the kids in Provo.

We started the Saturday off by driving to College Park high school in The Woodlands. Makenzie had a really good meet, she got another PR in shot put, 39'4", that is a foot farther than her last PR. She was in first place going into the finals, but another girl threw 39'5" and another one threw 40' 1/2", so it was close and she got third place. Makenzie also threw 109'2" in discus which gave her 4th place. We also found out she is ranked 38th in shot put in the state of Texas. Not too bad for a big state!

While Makenzie was at her meet, Jacob was over at our high school helping with the Special Olympics. Makenzie and I were both sad that we had to miss it this year, I was asked to be the official photographer but had to decline since I would be at Makenzie's meet. Here are a few pictures someone got of Jacob and his friends. He helped at the softball throw and some at shot put, but they didn't have any pictures at those events.

Back in Provo, Matthew and his friends were competing in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, which they won and Brittney was at Chalk Fest, no winners, just a lot of colorful chalk.

Track and a new PR

We headed up to Klein Oaks High School for a track meet today. Makenzie got a new PR in Shot put with a throw of  38'4" and got third place. She was a little off in discus with a throw of 102' 10" and got 8th place. her first throw went real far, but it was out of the sector. We celebrated her new PR with lunch at Pappasito's, we have sure been there a lot lately.

I love this picture! It show how excited her coach and teammates are for her!

Visiting Tyson and Kristina

Today we went to just Sacrament Meeting and then came home and changed our clothes and headed to Austin. We went to visit Tyson and Kristina's family and meet Parker, the newest Smith, and my great nephew. We had such a nice visit with them and their girls were very entertaining as they performed the song "Let it Go" from the movie Frozen, even little Lydia new all the words and actions. Brittney loves that movie so much we skyped with her just so she could her the girls sing and dance, I think we made Brittney's day! I loved on baby Parker!! On the way back home, Dale had to get gas so we stopped at Buc-cee's, mostly so the kids could get their Dr Pepper icee's.
Baby Parker. I love him!

I tried to get a picture of everyone with a timer on my camera, but didn't have a tripod, so I put my camera on the fire place mantel, it didn't work so well.
