Weekend With Matthew

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go visit Matthew up at BYU. I also went up there to drive the truck home. I am grateful that I was able to do this and that Dale held down the fort while I was gone. It was a fun filled trip, with a twist at the beginning. Matthew came to pick me up at the airport Thursday night and couldn't get the driver side door to close on the truck. We finally got it closed and headed to Provo and the door kept flying open. Poor Matthew ended up holding the door almost all the way home. First thing Friday morning I took it to a mechanic who was able to fix it! Friday was a busy day. I started by going out to breakfast with Dale's aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Brent Chambers. After getting the truck fixed, I took Matthew to the Mall for lunch and to buy a coat. He is going to need one real soon. I also shopped at he BYU bookstore for t-shirts. After that we drove up Provo Canyon to look at the fall colors. Later that evening we had dinner with a group of people from my family and Dale's family. It was a lot of fun visiting with everyone. After dinner I went to watch Matthew's intramural football game. I then headed back to Brent and Carolyn's house, where I was staying.

Saturday morning, Matthew and I went to Sam's Club to stock up on goodies for his dorm room, mostly Dr.Pepper. We went up to the Salt Lake area to eat lunch at Chipotle, they don't have one in Provo. We also went to Dave and Lori's house to load up some items for Tyson and Kristina to bring back to them in Austin. That afternoon we went to the BYU football game. That was a lot of fun. Two of my nieces were there, Erin, who goes to BYU and Megan who goes to CSU and drove down for the game. After the game Matthew and I went to the Women's soccer game. We had great seats! Matthew's cousin, Ashlee, is the sister-in-law to the girl who plays keeper. Her in-laws had two extra reserved seats. Both the the football team and soccer team won their games. After the game we went to Denny's to eat a very late dinner. I think I was the only person in there who wasn't a college student.

On Sunday, Matthew and I took an OCH. We hung out at Brent and Carolyn's house and watched football. We got the Bronco's game on TV, but had to watch the Bills game on the computer. We had dinner at Carolyn's and Brent's house. Their daughter Kristen also joined us. Their son Cory and his family came over for dessert. I spent the evening in Matthew dorm room. I got home early because I was leaving the next morning to start my drive home. It was hard to say goodbye to him.

The "real" grass, not Texas stuff. You can stand in it and not get poked or bitten by fire ants.

Monday morning I headed to Denver and stayed the night at my parents house. It was a beautiful drive. The sky was so blue and the colors were breath taking. Some of the most beautiful spots had no place to stop and take pictures. I tried to take them while driving through the window, but they didn't turn out too well. At one point in driving the car temperature read 30 degrees. burrrrr!!!! Glad I was in a car with a heater.

Tuesday morning I headed back home. And 17 1/2 hours later I made it! That was one long drive!

You are brave. I know I couldn't have driven that long but I bet Kristen that you would. It was a fun weekend and fun getting to know you better and Matt We are lucky to have close family. You are just so easy to have around and make me laugh:) Carolyn

No wonder they call you Slumber Party Marti! :) I really wish you could have been in DT when I was there, but since you're my aunt I'm not sure how that would have worked. It's probably better that way anyway- BYU might not have handled it.
